Funny things

Today I went on a job interview for a part-time position at Micheal’s as a floral designer. It went so amazingly well it made me feel really good about myself….I never knew I had SO MANY skills that could be used!! Can you do floral design? YES Can you paint? YES Can you wrap and make gift baskets? YES Can you run a register and stock shelves? YES Can you work in framing? YES Do you know the color wheel? ummmm….YES!!!! lol I can also juggle and do needlepoint…anything else? (I’m lying about those last 2) The others tho…are very much actual skills I pocess. The manager of Micheal’s was so flabbergasted by what all I could do, she starred…and kept telling me I was a blessing! HA! me? a blessing? :)

So more than likely I will be starting at Micheal’s within the week as the floral designer. I have to admit, it has been a few years since I have done florals….So I went to the book store to get something to jog my memory and to inspire me for my test run on tues. In doing this I came across the funniest thing….

Random Photo Post #1

Me at age 3-4

Me at age 3-4

I have decided to post random photos that I have lying around and need to put in a photo album….The first of many, this is me at aprox age 3-4 at my family home in Wetumka or Prattville (we moved to Prattville during this age). The cat was one of the family pets, I can’t recall the name. I think she later had kittens in my doll bed. I of course, probably toted them around unmercifully. And just think…today I have horrible allergies around them. I look to be filling up containers of water….for what? I have no clue. I would say I was helping mom water plants (because of the watering can), but I would’ve had to walk in grass to get to the plants…so thats a no go. But apparently too hot to be clothed. NICE!

This side of Paradise…

imgzeldaZelda Fitzgerald was the wife of author, F. Scott Fitzgerald (known for…This Side of Paradise, The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night…amongst many more). She was born and raised in Montgomery, AL (where I currently live). One of the main exits off of I-85 is named after her in fact. (aka Zelda Road) I have been reading a biography about Zelda called Zelda: A Biography. Here is a passage from this book about Montgomery…”In a story Zelda wrote later, she said there existed in Montgomery then ‘ a time and quality that appertains to nowhere else. It began about half past six on an early summer night, with the flicker and sputter of the corner street lights going on, and it lasted until the great incandescent globes were black inside with moths and beetles and the children were called in to bed from the dusty streets. Lawns were drenched with arcs of water thrown from hoses, and everything, even time, seemed to stand still before the onslaught of the heat. The drug stores are bright at night with the organdie balloons of girls’ dresses under the big electric fans. Automobiles stand along the curbs in front of open frame houses at dusk, and sounds of supper being prepared drift through the soft splotches of darkness to the young world that moves every evening out of doors. Telephones ring, and the lacy blackness under the trees disgorges young girls in white and pink, leaping over the squares of warm light toward the tinkling sound with an expectancy that people have only in places where any event is a pleasant one. Nothing seems ever to happen…”

thefitzIt goes on to tell stories of Zelda sitting atop a convertable in her flesh colored bathing suit flying down dexter, shocking everyone. Apparently there was a group of guys known as the “Jelly Beans” and dances given every night at oak park on a big wooden dance floor. Zelda was a well known girl at Auburn…dating Francis Stubbs (Auburn football hero) and having a fraternity named for her, Zeta Sigma. All this and the girl was hardly 19…

fitzgerald_house1Anyways, just thought I would share my latest amusement! I find learning about famous people who came from little ol’ Montgomery fascinating…Speaking of..It was April 4th 1968 that the wonderful Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated ( the anniversary being this Saturday) He was an awesome man who made the way for a whole new concept of life and freedom for many people. I like to think he opened a few eyes and maybe even a few hearts too.  If only we could ALL be so patient and persevere through as he once did. Even though he never got to see his vision come to pass…it eventually did. He stood strong in his beliefs and fought for them where many would have given up long before (and did). Never Give Up!
