Holy Moly!

Flimp 09 Win
OK here is a MUCH better pic of the final drawing…my pic sucked a million compared to this one! (Thanks again Sayed!)

Flimp: Won First Place!!
This year I won first place (adult) at MMFA’s annual Flimp Festival. I’m pretty siked! Never won first before…several honorable mentions, third place even (in shows other than Flimp), so this is a new thing! It makes my tired worn out body…almost worth it. (almost) Here is a pic of the final artwork:

I can’t figure out my phones camera modes, so it’s a little BLUE…but you get the gist. All in all it was a great event. Good friends came out and did their own works as well as I “helped” a friend with her junior high school kids with theirs. One of the friend entries (Debora, Ashley, Patrick) won 3rd place and Evelyn’s class from Capital Heights won 3rd place in the junior high division. So LOTS of wins!!!

On a funnier note, my dog has been extra nutty lately. Probably needing more attention, as I have been distracted alot these days. Thursday night he pooped in my car and then later tried to bite me when I got too close to his food bowl. SOOOOOooooo….I made him go in time out:

Then I tried to let him redeem himself, but he growled at me so he slept out on the balcony. A friend reported whining from my balcony yesterday….Prince is so spoiled and emotionally disturbed! lol
Today, while I attempted to relax after another long day, I caught him sleeping like this:

Madonnari: The Flimp festival
Street painting has been recorded throughout Europe since the 16th century. Street painters in Italy are called madonnari (pronounced: mah-doan-are-ee with madonnaro being the singular form) because they often created pictures representing the Madonna. In England they are called screevers.
Historically, madonnari were itinerant artists who lived a life of travel and freedom. Aware of the festival and holy days (holidays) in each province and town, they traveled to join in the festivities. They created images in public squares and in front of the local church using bits of broken roof tiles, charcoal, and some white chalk. Passersby would often leave a bit of bread or olive oil for the artist along with an occasional coin. The artists were often commissioned to create votos and ex-votos, and after the festivities or with the first rain, both the painting and the painter would vanish.
